Announcement for Pharmacist License ApplicantsAt the June 28, 2018Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy (Board) Meeting, the Board voted to waivethe requirement that Pharm.D. Graduates of schools of pharmacy accredited bythe Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) earn at least 500intern hours outside of their academic program. This means that the 1,500intern hours required for licensure as a pharmacist may be earned through anACPE-accredited school of pharmacy’s Pharm.D. Program and these graduates areno longer required to earn 500 intern hours outside of the school’s academicprogram. The State Board of Pharmacy regulates the practice of pharmacy in Pennsylvania. The Board registers pharmacy interns, licenses pharmacists and pharmacies and issues to eligible pharmacists the authorization to administer injectable medications, biologicals and immunizations.
The Board is charged with passing upon initial qualifications for licensure and with imposing sanctions against persons and businesses who violate the Pharmacy Act. The Board’s regulations govern practice standards; drug storage; security and dispensing requirements; facility requirements; licensure requirements; internships; and continuing education.
